Giovanni Stracquadanio is a lecturer in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Essex. He is the Head of the Computational Intelligence Lab for Biology and Medicine, which focuses on the development of computer aided design (CAD) software for synthetic biology and data-analysis methods for cancer genomics.
Dr Stracquadanio obtained a PhD in Computer Science from the Università degli Studi di Catania in Italy working on global optimisation methods. He was a postdoc in computational synthetic biology at the School of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University and at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the University of Oxford in cancer genetics.
His work has been published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, including Science, Nature Reviews Cancer, PNAS and Genome Research, and he was recently awarded the Wellcome Trust Seed Award in Science.
